This book is a collection of essays and anecdotes in which the author recounts some of her lived experiences. She shares these anecdotes to unpack her privilege while exposing the toxicity of privileged groups in Mexican society; the documented, wealthy, middle-class, white, white-passing, bilingual, non-Black, non-Indigenous, educated, catholic, heterosexual, cisgender, and able-bodied. While talking about herself, her family, and the education system as she experienced it, the author talks about her process of unlearning ingrained nocive values such as colorblindness, ethnocentrism, and toxic nationalism. Also touched upon are some of the nocive behaviors and rhetoric that privileged Mexicans (in Mexico) carry with themselves because of their failure to challenge the multiple systems of oppression that they benefit from. Y tú ¿qué hora traes? represents but a tiny fraction of the problems, power structures and social injustices that remain unchallenged in Mexico. It is the author’s hope to continue to grow her understanding of the issues that are presented here and to continue working from a self-reflective perspective.

This book provides comprehensive and up-to-date information by examining them in detail during that era with special reference to the post-Soeharto period. Despite improvements in the position of ethnic Chinese in the reformasi era, critical and negative perceptions of them persist among prominent pribumi personalities, particularly in recent years. These include leaders of several Islamic organizations, nationalists who harbour suspicions about foreign powers, and some who were in mid-career and/or were well placed in the last years of the Suharto era. This latter group consists of retired senior military officers, senior scholars, as well as current and former senior government officials. The ethnic Chinese are often portrayed as outsiders who are already dominant economically, and who are trying to be politically dominant as well. Furthermore, it is often claimed that ethnic Chinese tend to be loyal towards China. At the same time, there are others, including politicians affiliated with pro-government political parties, high-ranking officials, leaders of NGOs sympathetic to President Jokowi, as well as advocates of multiculturalism (many of whom are scholars and Muslim leaders), who believe that Chinese Indonesians are first and foremost Indonesians. The evidence they cite to support this belief varies, from past heroic actions by ethnic Chinese to the identity constructs of Chinese Indonesians, which is usually based on Indonesia or some Indonesian region.

"Publikacja powstała na podstawie badań Autorki przeprowadzonych wśród społeczności asyryjsko-aramejskiej w Szwecji. Asyryjczycy/Aramejczycy trafili do Skandynawii w późnych latach 60. Podjęto go jednak z nowej na gruncie polskim perspektywy - ukazując, jak z integracją radzą sobie bliskowschodni chrześcijanie."-- Provided by publisher.
